Description
Promotes the appreciation of the culture and arts of Puerto Rico and Latin America with a special emphasis on its African heritage. SRBCC realizes its mission to preserve and promote appreciation of the culture and arts of Puerto Rico, with a special emphasis on its African heritage. In 2007 SRBCC completed the purchase of a 13,000 square feet retail and office space in Chicago’s Hermosa neighborhood. The space, formerly the Karlov Theater, was built in 1925 and includes five retail spaces, two apartments, and a theater area. SRBCC is proud to report that after the completion of stage one of a capital campaign, the rehabilitation of the retail space, the building’s facade and the conversion of the former theater into a multipurpose space has been completed.
A strong focus on providing life-changing opportunities in the arts to at-risk youth combined with regular free family-friendly music programing, workshops and master classes with the best local and touring talent make SRBCC a true hub for the arts in Hermosa.
