Event Details

Manhattan Concert Productions presents Vaughan Williams’ cantata Dona Nobis Pacem and Antiphon from Five Mystical Songs with the Masterworks Festival Chorus, the professional Elgin Symphony Orchestra and soloists Rebecca Wascoe, soprano and Gregory Brookes, baritone, led by esteemed Guest Conductor Richard Bjella at Orchestra Hall, Symphony Center on Sunday, May 25 at 7:30pm.

Vaughan Williams composed his cantata Dona Nobis Pacem as a prayer for peace with texts taken from the Mass, poetry by Walt Whitman, a political speech, and Biblical verse. Throughout the six parts of Dona Nobis Pacem, Vaughan Williams combines gorgeous melodies and vivid text in his wonderfully complex and thrilling cantata.

The concert will also feature esteemed American composer Z. Randall Stroope as he leads the National Festival Chorus performing a diverse and exciting program including the works of Telemann and Paulus, as well as some of Stroope’s very own works, Lamentations of Jeremiah, and Go Lovely Rose. Maestro Stroope is one of the most active choral conductors and composers working today.

Don’t miss this spectacular Memorial Day weekend concert at Orchestra Hall, Symphony Center, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
